Beach activities

The beach

Just steps below the campsite lies a beautiful, family-friendly beach, perfect for both relaxing and playing. Feel the sand between your toes, soak up the sun and let the kids build sandcastles or splash safely at the water's edge.

For the active ones

If you're after a bit more action, take a dip, swim along the shoreline or explore what lies beneath the surface with snorkelling gear. The beach is also great for ball games and messing about in the water. The only limit is your imagination.

Aktiviteter ved Fjellerup Strand

SUP boarding

If you fancy getting out on the water, a stand up paddleboard is a wonderful way to explore the coastline. Just a few minutes from shore you'll find a stillness that's hard to beat, and on a calm evening there's nothing quite like paddling out to watch the sunset over Fjellerup Strand.

Rent a board at reception

If you haven't brought your own board, you can rent one at the campsite reception. Please always show respect for your own safety out on the water, and remember that a buoyancy aid or life jacket is required by law when using a SUP board.

Blue flag beach

We're proud that Fjellerup Strand has been awarded the Blue Flag by Friluftsrådet, your guarantee of excellent water quality, high safety standards and a commitment to the environment and visitor experience.

Blue flag station

The Coastal and Fjord Centre runs a Blue Flag station on the beach throughout the summer, offering activities for both younger and older visitors.

Get up close with the sea

According to our guests, the station is well worth a visit. Kids and grandkids alike tend to forget all about their screens for a while. Using seine nets, you can explore what lives on the seabed, and with the help of the Blue Flag team you get the chance to see and touch some of the sea's most fascinating creatures up close.

Coastal fishing

Fjellerup Strand Camping is a fantastic base for some of Denmark's best coastal fishing, whether you're after a relaxed session targeting flatfish or keen to cast for sea trout along the shoreline.

Norddjursland sits right between the mouth of the Gudenå river at Randers Fjord and the Kolindsund canals near Grenaa, where thousands of sea trout and salmon pass through every year.

Fishing licence

A valid fishing licence is required to fish in Denmark. You can purchase yours quickly and easily online before heading out.

Fjellerup Bank

Just below the campsite lies the legendary Fjellerup reef. The shallow waters here warm up quickly in the spring sun, drawing sea trout in to feed on the first sand eels and shrimp of the season.

Great fishing all season long

Sea trout fishing peaks in April and May, and garfish arrive in Danish waters from April through to July, often in impressive numbers.
Flounder fishing is also excellent just off Fjellerup Strand. Drop anchor 100 to 300 metres from shore and you'll have a fresh flatfish dinner on the table before you know it.

Sea trout

If you're targeting sea trout, try digging or pumping sand worms from the shallows between the sandbars at low tide. It's a classic bait that rarely disappoints.

Summer nights and big catches

As summer sets in, sea trout tend to move out towards deeper stretches of coastline such as Gjerrild, Karlby and Sangstrup Klinter. The long bright nights can make for truly magical fishing sessions. Keep in mind that the minimum size for sea trout is 40 cm, so only the bigger ones are coming home with you.

From the water to the kitchen

If luck is on your side, you're welcome to use the fish cleaning station on the campsite, and we're happy to freeze and store your catch for you.
